LANDSCAPING INFORMATION
LETTER FROM
THE PRESIDENT
The landscaping at Vizcaya
is on updating mode.
A Master Plan,
currently being prepared by the experts
at AREA LANDSCAPING,
will deal with the issues at
hand including those of concern
to the unit owners.
There will
also be a clear cost estimate of items that are
outside the contract with AREA.
When ready,
expected in September 2011, the Master
Plan will be
presented to the BoD members and Captains
who will be given
time for review and discussion. The
Plan will
propose priorities (clearly everything cannot be
done at once) which
will be discussed and agreed upon
by vote.
In the
interim, AREA is doing a great job at containing
and reversing the
overgrowth. All hedging on the outer
side of the walls will be
trimmed below the cap to
maintain a uniform look for Vizcaya
grounds and
landscaping.
Some of the
hedging in front of the wall was damaged
during the concrete restoration
process. If the hedging
does not recover, it will have to
be replaced.
The
philodendron, a plant that grows rapidly because of
its high water
content, tends to “overtake” the area and
smother other plants. It has been cut back to (1) protect
the integrity of the walls (2) reduce breeding grounds for
vermin and (3) save existing
plants and trees.
We invite you
to communicate on or before 12:00 noon
Monday August
14, 2011, in writing any landscaping
issue that you have to the
Captains of your stack or to the
Vizcaya Board
c/o
Landscaping
Committee, or to any other BoD member at
your discretion.
Please be
patient as we complete this process.
Dr. Ralph
Calatchi
